Centipedes are a stealthy arthropod that will wander around the facility looking for a position to lurk in. Once a suitable spot has been found, the Centipede will latch to the ceiling by propelling itself using silk produced from its thorax. The Centipede will remain in this position stationary, waiting for the perfect opportunity to spring their trap. When an Asset comes into close proximity with a waiting Centipede, it will drop from the ceiling, attempting to latch onto the Asset's face to blind them and deprive them of oxygen, knocking all of their items to the ground in the process. After some time has elapsed, the Asset will suffocate completely, and the Centipede will move on to find a new location to wait for prey. If a Centipede manages to latch onto you, you have several options:
If you were holding a melee weapon, you can look down and attempt to pick it up, then swing to knock the Centipede from your head.
If your crewmates have a melee weapon, they can strike you to knock the Centipede from your head.
Your crewmates can mash [E] to pry the Centipede from your head. This will not damage the Centipede, but can wound (and possibly kill) your teammates.
If you are near an exit, leaving the interior will immediately remove the Centipede, killing it in the process.
If the Centipede is successfully removed from the target's head (or if the Centipede misses their prey in the first place), they will typically attempt to flee and find another spot to latch onto. This is their most vulnerable state, so take the opportunity to kill them here.
Use the Echo Scanner and light-emitting tools to spot Centipedes easily.
If you were carrying a melee weapon be calm and attempt to find it on the ground to save yourself if snared.
If you are snared by the Centipede and cannot find a way to remove it without dying, try and find a landmine, turret, or a pit, so you can take it with you, potentially saving a crewmate's life later on.
Zap Guns and Shotguns will also remove a Centipede from your own or another's head.
