Origins

What is an Origin?

Origins is a mod created by apace100 that utilizes datapacks to introduce Origins into Minecraft; variations a player can select when joining a world that allow them to start as a unique role or race that has various abilities, advantages and drawbacks. For example, an Origin such as the Enderian has the ability to throw Ender Pearls on a cooldown and has a greater passive reach, but takes damage from water sources and cannot see entities who wear Carved Pumpkins. Origination adds a multitude of Origins to provide a diverse choice of gameplay experience for the player. We are always on the lookout to add new and unique Origins to the pack. You can view all of the Origins in the pack, as well as their credits on our List of Playable Origins page.

How do I change my Origin?

Requirements for an Origin

We try to avoid including immensely complex and overtuned Origins in this modpack, and stick to ones that are intuitive to understand with enough enhancements to make the gameplay experience different from vanilla. Origins can range from simple to advanced to accommodate for players of any skill and knowledge of the game. If you would like to recommend an Origin to consider including in this pack, you can submit a feature request ticket on the GitHub issues page, which we will respond to. If your Origin is added, a page will be created here on the Wiki and will be fully credited. Try and make your Origins fit several criteria that we look for:

  1. The Origin needs to offer a style of gameplay different from an existing Origin. e.g. Don't suggest another Elytrian that moves at a different speed; it needs something else to be unique (using this example, Elytrian and Fairy are similar but distinct enough to be both included).

  2. The Origin needs to be balanced within the power level of other Origins within the mod. We don't want our players to be inclined to pick an Origin purely because it has a very obvious and distinct power advantage over other Origins.

  3. The Origin needs to be cohesively written. This means good grammar, in English (it doesn't need to be perfect), and a smart method of delivering information about the Origin to the player. This can either be through the in-game Origins menu, a Patchouli guidebook, or an external Wiki page (though one will be created here if it is added), to name a few instances.

  4. The Origin needs to be compact. By this, it is meant that the Origin should not have too many abilities unnecessarily, and should keep the number of keybinds for active abilities low.

These rules aren't strict and exceptions can be made for well-designed Origins that we particularly like, however.
