Dev Note: Due to feedback from both users and a technical perspective, I have decided to cull the number of total mods included in the modpack. I have aimed to target those mods that are either luxury additions or performance intensive, with the attempted goals of improving general performance and simplifying the modpack experience without compromising the core identity and feel of the gameplay. If you disagree with some of these removals, feel free to submit a request to readd these mods on the GitHub page, and I will reconsider their position within the modpack. I will continue to monitor feedback for performance in subsequent updates.

Patch Notes:

General:

  • Removed Spatial Mage (Origin).

Dev Note: The Spatial Mage contained some features I felt were too specialized for the general fantasy experience the pack achieves, as well as some abilities that had some awkward interactions with entities and the environment alike. As such, I've made the decision to remove this Origin. I will be exploring alternate methods to allow players to immerse themselves in a magic-oriented fantasy experience in subsequent updates.

  • Removed Gunslinger (Class).

Dev Note: Although I am happy with the concept of a fantasy Gunslinger class existing within the pack, I am not content with the quality and consistency of the weapons themselves, making the Gunslinger a poor class choice from feedback. If a mod such as Guns Without Roses is ported to Fabric, I will reconsider re-implementing this class.

  • Worldgen now depends on Terralith and OTBYG.

  • Removed Glares (Friends and Foes).

  • Removed missing weapons from light, medium, and heavy weapon type tags.

  • Reduced the probability a level-up tome will spawn in a loot chest (5% -> 1%).

  • Reduced the probability any mob will drop a level-up tome (10% -> 1%).

  • Cosmetica lore is now disabled by default (to prevent overlapping with PlayerEx Levels).

  • Cosmetica name tag icons are now disabled by default.

  • Changed the Origin select screen to have a grid-like layout.

CraftPresence:

  • Changed general layout of how information is displayed on your Discord profile:

  • Updated Discord RPC formatting to correctly display the name of the currently selected origin and class in a more readable format.

  • Fixed the Blazeborn not having a Discord Rich Presence icon.

Release notes for Origination 2.11.0. Refer to the Update Guide for information on how to update the modpack.

Dev Note: Make sure to make a backup of your worlds before updating to this version. If you encounter any bugs or have any suggestions, please visit the GitHub page and submit a ticket, or visit the Discord server for discussion.

Mod Changes:

  • (+) Added Styled Chat.

  • (+) Added Welcome Message.

Patch Notes:

General:

  • Added Origination - Official as an in-built server.

  • Identities no longer have health scaling.

Bee:

  • Changed active ability Metamorphosis: Bee (previously Bee Wings): on top of the existing power, the player transforms into a Bee while using this power.

Snow Golem:

  • Changed active ability Metamorphosis: Snow Golem (previously Frost Trail): on top of the existing power, the player transforms into a Snow Golem while using this power.

  • Removed Ice Shards active ability.

  • Updated ability descriptions to accommodate for this change.

  • Fixed a bug preventing the Snow Golem from being able to step up one block tall ledges.

Release notes for Origination 2.10.0. Refer to the Update Guide for information on how to update the modpack.

Dev Note: Monthly patch for June 2023. Make sure to make a backup of your worlds before updating to this version. If you encounter any bugs or have any suggestions, please visit the GitHub page and submit a ticket, or visit the Discord server for discussion. In regards to the Trails and Tales update (1.20), I do not plan to update the modpack to this version until a sizeable amount of content in this pack is also updated. So for now, Origination will remain at 1.19.2.

Mod Changes:

  • (+) Added XP Obelisk.

  • (+) Added Fabric Seasons: Delight Compat.

  • (+) Added Identity.

  • (+) Added Origins: Vampire.

  • (+) Added Vinery: Let's Do Wine!

  • (+) Added Dungeons and Taverns.

  • (+) Added Bobby.

  • (+) Added Overflowing Bars.

  • (+) Added Hearth & Home.

  • (+) Added Convenient Decor.

  • (+) Added Critters and Companions.

  • (-) Removed Creatures from the Snow.

  • (-) Removed Sodium.

  • (-) Removed Sodium Extras.

  • (-) Removed Indium.

  • (-) Removed Reese's Sodium Options.

  • (-) Removed Iris Shaders.

Dev Note: Due to the recent breach of several mods on CurseForge resulting in some becoming compromised by a virus, Sodium has been archived and moved to Modrinth exclusively. As I think this mod and some of it's dependents are necessary to the Fabric experience, I will look into migrating Origination to Modrinth in the future.

  • Disabled some cluttered buttons in the inventory provided by Inventory Profiles Next.

  • Picked up items now follow vanilla behaviour and are added to the hotbar if possible.

Fox:

  • Removed the passive speed bonus gained at night.

  • Removed Chipped (will return, see dev note below).

  • Removed CTM Refabricated.

Dev Note: The current version of Supplementaries has missing textures for wall lanterns and hanging signs (specifically, the parts that connect to the blocks they attach to). This is caused by CTM Refabricated, the dependency for Chipped. As Chipped has only recently been added, it will be removed until CTM Refabricated is updated to support this incompatibility (see: CTM Refabricated GitHub, issue 7).

Patch Notes:

General:

  • Xaero's Minimap now shows current biome by default as information.

  • Changed the formatting of the default player list a bit.

  • Disabled Extra Vanilla Hammers to reduce item bloat. The progression of Hammers now matches that of Pickaxes (Wood -> Netherite).

Release notes for Origination 2.7.9. Refer to the Installation Guide for information on how to install the modpack.

Mod Changes:

  • Added Chipped.

Patch Notes:

General:

  • Can no longer harvest spawners using Silk Touch (this was unintentional, Spirit should be the primary method of creating mob spawners).

  • Can no longer swap armour with armour stands. (to prevent a bug allowing players to swap their armour with the decoy armour while playing as the Animated Armor origin).

  • By default, mobs now scale by time spent in a world by a lesser amount: Before: the HP and Damage of mobs increases by 5% for every hour players were on the server (cap: 300%). After: the HP and Damage of mobs increases by 1% for every 6 hours players were on the server (cap: 200%).

  • By default, mobs now scale with the level of players within a 100 block radius of them (+1% HP and Damage for each level the player has).

  • Phantoms are now blacklisted from the list of mobs that can scale.

Dev Note: Scaling was somewhat rampant for mobs in the previous versions, and testing showed that many mobs became too powerful within a day of gameplay. This should help to alleviate this issue, and appropriately scale mobs closer to the player's stats and tools.

  • Fixed Flute songs not working on servers.

Knight:

  • Now gains renown from slaying lesser Undead mobs (+2 renown on kill).

Strider:

  • Mushrooms now restore more hunger (Food: 2 -> 4, Saturation: 2 -> 3).

Release notes for Origination 2.7.8. Refer to the Installation Guide for information on how to install the modpack.

Mod Changes:

  • Added Sodium Extra.

  • Added Styled Player List.

Patch Notes:

General:

  • Default starting equipment is now a Leather Bag of Holding containing various items, including a Wooden Axe, Orb of Rebirth, Orb of Vocation, a small assortment of food, and a money pouch containing around 5 silver.

Strider:

  • Added mob-related sounds (Strider).

Release notes for Origination 2.7.7. Refer to the Installation Guide for information on how to install the modpack.

Mod Changes:

  • Updated Mob Origins.

  • Updated Spell Engine.

  • Added Reese's Sodium Options.

Patch Notes:

General:

  • Removed Target Dummies from the list of mobs that can spawn with equipment and buffs.

  • Fixed Living Armor occasionally appearing on mobs.

Impact Changes:

Dev Note: Impact serves to inform the player about how much an Origin will deviate from the standard Minecraft experience. In the context of Origination, impact should be considered using the following factors:

  • How different is it from a Human? Some minor stat changes may indicate the Origin is low impact.

  • How does it affect player engagement with the world? For example, picking an Origin such as a Dwarf allows the player to access smaller spaces due to their size, and convinces the player to play in underground environments, but overall, is not heavily restricted. A Giant on the other hand is unable to access most places in the world without some creative thought due to their scale, and this would impact player engagement greatly.

  • How does it affect player engagement with entities? Another subtle criterion is considering how an Origin interacts with other entities. Origins that have Villager interactions, such as the Knight should be higher impact, as well as those that are neutral towards Pillagers or Undead, like the Evoker or Necromancer.

  • What dimension or environment does it start in? Origins that are forced to start in a dimension that is not the Overworld should automatically indicate they are high impact, as the experience will be wildly different from standard Minecraft. Origins such as the Merling should also be considered high impact as they are expected to survive in a specific environment that may be detrimental, unless there is a rare circumstance or long preparations made to survive on the surface (such as water networks or rain occurring). The Dwarf, although it meets some of these standards, should not be at the highest impact as a simple step can be made to live on the surface (crafting a helmet).

  • How complex is the Origin to learn and play? For some Origins, although their core gameplay may be similar to a Human's, they have some significant changes that essentially change the gameplay loop in a massive way. An Origin that comes to mind here is the Witcher.

Witcher:

  • Changed Impact (2 -> 3).

Knight:

  • Changed Impact (1 -> 2).

Fairy:

  • Changed Impact (3 -> 2).

Slime:

  • Can dye themselves, by right-clicking while holding a dye. This tints them, blending the color like leather armor.

  • Clicking on a cauldron with water will reset their color back to the slime green.

  • Summoned slimes will now be the same color as the player.

  • Summoned slimes no longer damage their owner.

  • Changed Impact (2 -> 1).

Forestborn:

  • Changed Impact (3 -> 2).

Dwarf:

  • Changed Impact (3 -> 2).

Vampire:

  • Changed Impact (3 -> 2).

Bee:

  • Changed Impact (2 -> 1).

Snow Golem:

  • Fixed Snow Trail appearing when toggle is active.

Strider:

  • Adjusted passive: Is now able to walk on water as well as lava.

  • Removed passive: Removed damage vulnerability to water.

  • New active: Can only eat raw mushrooms to restore hunger (of all types, not just Warped Fungus). Eating a mushroom grants 2 hunger, 2 saturation, and a speed boost.

  • New active: Can pick up a passenger to ride on their back. Sneaking and pressing the same active key will force any passengers to dismount you.

  • New passive: Nether mobs will ignore you unless you attack them first.

  • Slightly reduced the amplifier of the movement speed debuff you receive when on land.

Dev Note: Striders were somewhat unfun to play, and purely forced to only receive benefits from playing on bodies of lava. These changes should make Striders less punishing, as well as open up new playstyles if they choose to migrate to the Overworld.

Necromancer:

  • Adjusted Poor Reputation passive: Now targeted by Guards and Villager Golems.

  • Adjusted the area of effect of Nightmare Dash to be closer to the distance the player moves.

  • Now loses 7 XP points each time they kill a Skeleton summoned by their Hellraiser ability.

Dev Note: Necromancers were using their Hellraiser ability to rapidly farm XP and Levels early on. This should help to counteract this by removing the amount of XP gained on average from killing a Skeleton.

Release notes for Origination 2.7.6. Refer to the Installation Guide for information on how to install the modpack.

Mod Changes:

  • Added Starter Kit.

  • Added World Border.

  • Added Set World Spawn Point.

  • Readded Create Crafts and Additions.

  • Added BisectHosting Server Integration Menu.

  • Updated Supplementaries

Patch Notes:

General:

  • Added a starter kit that by default grants all players with 16 bread on their first spawn. Server owners can modify this config to create starter kits for their servers.

Release notes for Origination 2.7.5. Refer to the Installation Guide for information on how to install the modpack.

Mod Changes:

  • Added Target Dummies.

  • Updated Wizards.

  • Updated Spell Engine.

  • Updated Spell Power Attributes.

  • Updated Eating Animation.

  • Updated ChatHeads.

  • Updated Corgi Lib.

  • Updated Creeper Overhaul.

  • Updated Moonlight Lib.

  • Updated PlayerAnimator.

  • Updated Better Combat.

  • Updated YUNG's Better Nether Fortresses.

  • Updated Easy Magic.

  • Updated Enchanted Vertical Slabs.

  • Updated Visual Workbench.

  • Updated Balm.

  • Updated Farming for Blockheads.

Patch Notes:

General:

  • Added separation parameters for When Dungeons Arise structures to increase the likelihood they spawn further apart from one another (only applies to new chunks).

  • Removed RPGDifficulty HP and Damage scaling on Bosses to make them more enjoyable to fight.

  • Added all wooden chest types to the list of upgradable chests (Wooden -> Copper).

  • Fixed Discord Rich Presence message for Multiplayer servers.

  • Added an Unofficial Community server to the Multiplayer menu: Pendragon. Pendragon is a factions PvP server run by a user of Origination, and is not affiliated with the mod directly, but I have agreed to promote the server within the client for the time being. If you want to learn more about the community, join the Origination Discord server.

Snow Golem:

  • New active: Press Jump to consume ice you are holding, decreasing your temperature by varying amounts (5s Cooldown).

    • Ice: 20%.

    • Packed Ice: 40%.

    • Blue Ice: 100%.

Dev Note: The Snow Golem was unable to venture underground and into certain dungeons without a source of water or ice nearby to cool down. With this active, they should now have an additional option to massively clear their temperature while in a difficult situation.

Shulk:

  • New active: Hold crouch to being charging a meter. When it is full, enter a defensive state, where you take less damage and knockback from all sources. You cannot move in this state, and taking damage will cause you to exhaust.

  • New passive: Cannot sprint unless over 10 points of hunger.

  • Reduced base max health: (20 -> 16).

  • Reduced base armour points: (4 -> 2.5).

Wiki:

  • Renamed "External Mods" to "Mod Content".

  • Added sections to Mod Content: Getting Started, Bosses, Exploration, Botania and Spirit.

[1.19.2] 2.7.4

Release notes for Origination 2.7.4. Refer to the Installation Guide for information on how to install the modpack.

Mod Changes:

  • Updated Animated Armor.

Patch Notes:

General:

  • Added the Kiln to the Furnaces tag.

  • Added Unique weapons to the Axes, Greathammers, Swords and Halberds tags.

  • Updated Discord Rich Presence messages.

Animated Armor:

  • Reduced overall hit points (24HP -> 12HP).

  • Iron Ingots heal for less (4HP -> 2HP).

  • Deflective Plating has been changed to: "You take no damage from regular arrows while your armor is fully intact." (Previously): "You take no damage from regular arrows."

Dev Note: Testing showed that the Animated Armor was far too durable once they had a good supply of Iron and rarely lost their helmet. Paired with the ability to negate dangerous sources of damage that would otherwise be lethal, these changes should make the armor more susceptible to risk.

Daemon:

  • Cloak of Cinders no longer damages players.

  • Cloak of Cinders no longer damages items.

  • While Cloak of Cinders is active you move slightly faster.

  • No longer takes damage from rain while Cloak of Cinders is active.

  • Takes less tick damage from water and rain (2HP -> 1HP per second).

Dev Note: Daemon was unable to use Cloak of Cinders while playing in a group with other players. Now they will be able to actively toggle the ability while fighting with their allies. The additional movement speed granted by Cloak of Cinders should allow them to close distance with their enemies easier.

Vampire:

  • Fine-tuned whitelist of mobs that the Vampire can feed off (only Living creatures with blood).

    • Some mobs may not be included in the list, they will be added in a future update.

  • Prints a failure message to the Vampire when they attempt to bite an invalid target.

  • Blood meter drains much faster in Bat form.

  • Cannot interact with containers in Bat form.

  • Removed Rotten, Explosive, Sizzling and Slimey blood types.

  • Reduced the amplifiers of effects granted during the night.

Dev Note: Vampire now has support for modded entities, and won't be able to feed on a majority of hostile mobs.
